PREPARATION OF UN 2011/2012 For INDONESIA SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

.A. LISTENING SECTION

THE EXAMINATION
I was waiting for the doctor to finish his examination. I was worried and nervous. Would he have to operate? Would a blood transfusion be necessary? What would he have to say?
Dr. Johnson was a heart specialist. He was an excellent doctor and his examinations were always complete. He listened to the patient’s heart, took his blood pressure and temperature, gave him an x-ray and examined his eye and ears.
The doctor finally completed his examination and spoke to me. He told me that heart trouble is never a minor illness, but this wasn’t a serious heart attack. He advised losing some weight, getting a plenty of sleep and eating good meals. Smoking and drinking would be harmful, of course.
Johnson said, it would be necessary to be careful for a while, but he was confident that there was nothing to worry about.
I felt much better after I spoke to Dr Johnson. I was certain that my uncle would be up and around again very soon. He’s seventy years old now, but can still alive for long time if he talks good care of him self.

THE SPANISH ARMADA
In May 1588 Spain was the most powerful country in the world. King Philip II of Spain determined to conquer England and became its King. He ordered a large number of ships to be prepared to set sail and invade England.
At first, Queen Elizabeth I ignored the rumors of a Spanish invasion, but soon she came to realize the great danger the country was in and she made sure that England would be prepared for a battle.
As soon as the Spanish ships were seen from the English coast, fire were lit on the hills as a signal that the invasion was coming.
Once the battle began it was obvious to the Spanish that they would be defeated. Not only did the English sailors have stronger and more powerful ships, they also made terrifying use of fire ships-boats were deliberately set ablaze and then sent amongst the Spanish fleet.
At last the battle was over. A few Spanish ships escaped and eventually reached home, and many were sunk and to this day some of their wreck still lies on the seabed in the English Channel.

PAINTING THE WALL
One morning, one of the Witch’s friends came over to visit. When she looked around the room, she said “Your house is ugly. After lunch he started to paint, and she worked very carefully. In the afternoon she finished the lower part of her house. When she wanted to start painting the upper part she found out that she couldn’t reach it. Then she got an idea. “I will use my magic broom!” She shouted,” Broom, oh my broom, turn into a paint brush and paint my wall!”
Suddenly the broom turned into a paint brush and it started to paint the upper walls. It worked very fast, and in ten minutes all the job was done. The Witch was very happy.
