Find Partner Game

The other teaching method to make our class productive and attractive is a game which is called Find Partner Game. To conduct this method, here are some steps:
  • Choose vocabulary to revise
  • You may allow students some time to use a dictionary before they start moving around.
  • Write each word in Bahasa Indonesia on a single piece of paper. Then write each word in English on a separate piece of' paper.
  • Divide the class into two halves- group A and group B.
  • Give each student in group A one of the pieces of paper with a Bahasa Indonesia word.
  • Give each student in group B a piece of paper with an English word.
  • The students then walk around the class looking for their partner from the looking opposite groups.
  • When each student has found his or her partner get each pair to come to the board and write their words on the board. This person can then be their new partner for a week/month or whatever time period the teacher decides.
  • Finally, everyone writes down all the words and translations (or just the ones they do not already know) in their vocabulary books or their note books.

The above are suitable for pre- and/or post- listening. They are ideal:
  • as pre-listening activities to "activate" students' language.
  • as quick warmers to get your students in the mood.
  • as topic-based follow-up or extension activities.
  • for breaking up an otherwise difficult or boring class with a short lively activity.
  • as a vocabulary review before starting a new text/topic.
  • as a brief orientation activity to prepare for a change of pace, mood, or topic
  • as a quick amusing game to round off the lesson and leave the students with a smile.
