Running Dictation Game in Learning English

  • Find a short passage or dialogue and make several copies. This Could be something you write yourself, a passage from your course book, a poem, a song, a passage from one of the texts in this package.
  • Put the copies up around the walls of the classroom
  • Divide the students into manageable groups.
  • One of the students in each group has to walk or run to read the text on the wall. They remember some of the text and run back to their group. They quietly dictate what they remembered to their group, one of whom writes it down.

  • Then the next students in the group runs to the text on the wall, reads and remembers some and runs back to the group.
  • Over several runs they will build the whole passage. This means they really do have to run back and forth because students may only remember three or four words at a time.
  • The winning group is the one that finishes first and most accurately. If there are mistakes, they must keep returning to the text on the wall to check.
